 The Ongoing Quality Candidate Shortage.
"Business relationships are proving invaluable in the continuing quality candidate short market.”

What is really happening in our market at the moment? Unemployment is growing daily and a large proportion of mining and construction projects have slowed or been put on hold so you would logically expect an abundance of high quality candidates. Why then is this not so?

For example, why is it still as difficult now as it was 12 months ago to find good quality Civil, Mining and Fire Safety Engineers?

In the majority of cases, engineering businesses have retained their top performers and shed their less experienced or less productive staff. Companies looking for good engineers are running their own print or internet advertisements resulting in a  flood of less than ideal candidates. Trying to sort through the large number of CVs recieved is consuming a lot of HR and management time and is generally unproductive.

In the main the more desirable candidates are still employed, and are now very cautious about changing employers given the current economic conditions. They are not actively seeking a new role. (“Better the devil you know…”) However, many of them will consider changing, but it will depend on the project or the company, and most importantly, they need to be contacted directly. How can this be achieved?

This is where the resources of FMPLUS become invaluable. We not only have consultants across Australia running hundreds of job advertisements on many different job boards, but more importantly, we have our database of thousands of candidates.

Currently, we are finding a large and growing proportion of our successful placements are the result of a database search and a phone call to a potential candidate.

When we do get a good candidate as the result of advertising, we are able to place them very quickly within a range of excellent projects.

If you are an employer and looking for quality staff, contact your local FMPLUS office. Not only will we save your valuable time trawling through countless CVs, we could also be more effective in delivering the required result.

If you are looking for a new career opportunity, please contact one of our consultants. We have a range of different roles advertised and on our web-site.
